hrblogs.org now has support forums, I was looking to get bbPress up and running but decided to go with something more stable, phpBB.
There is a general HRIS discussion forum as well as an experiment, to see if the industry needs such an environment, feedback?
Over the last few days there has been a buzz about the “malware” that Sony’s DRM protected CDs have installed on Windows based computers. Now not only has Sony been hit by a class action law suit, hackers have now used the Sony DRM to hide trogan horses.
Update: Sony has now stopped manufacturing of these CDs
I have updated the themes over at hrblogs.org and we now have well over 60 themes to choose from most with pictures thanks to James Farmer. If you are after a new look for your blog or want to start a new blog and work in HR please feel free to drop by and set one up.
Well last night was the first solo event for the AHRI Victorian HRIS SIG, and it was a success! We have 40 people (for 40 seats) turn up and listen to Glen Rabie from Yellowfin and Lyndal Bradilovic from Corrs Chambers Westgarth provide us with a fascinating look at principles of information collaboration and specifics about Corrs’s recent implementation of a HR/Business Reporting environment.
It was only after I got home last night that I remembered I should of taken some picture of the event and posted them. Maybe next time.
Glen provided some interesting points which tended to go against the traditional thoughts of implementing business intelligence (BI) in an organisation, but made a lot of sense. Ideas such as, start with BI at an operational level first not the executives, even if they have the budget.
Lyndal spoke of their 2 week implementation of the Yellowfin tools! During the implementation of a new HRIS in the organisation they ran into problems with the report writer provided by the vendor, it was no longer supported and was not to be installed! Lyndal now had an HRIS without the ability to get the data out, a real compelling and urgent requirement. She spoke of solving the demarcation around data ownership between Finance and HR and how the initial partnership between the two departments is now paying off as they move into more strategic reporting.
This morning I was lucky enough to listen to Yves Lermusiaux (President and Founder Taleo Research) talk about the ROI of Talent Acquisition at the Westin in Melbourne. While the session was a sales pitch to potential client Yves still covered some very important topics such as the economic impact of talent acquisition. Yves was speaking to a new white paper from Taleo that goes through their research into the whole ROI area.
After the session I was able to spend a bit of time speaking with him about recruitment, talent management and blogging in Australia.
Frank Arrigo’s son is getting a Tablet at his new school, very cool. Frank provides a great description of the software that that will be using. Frank is pumped, maybe he should have a look at The Table Education Blog for some more ideas?
I have been very busy over the last week or so. Spent 2 days down at Bells Beach just chilling out with the family, we drove an hour or so down the Great Ocean Rd I have uploaded a few pictures to Fickr if you have never seen the Great Ocean Rd you really should get down here and have a look!
This week we have been caught up in the Spring Racing Carnival and spent today out at Oaks Day watching the horses go around the track.
Oh and of course working. Back to a more normal posting next week.
