These things are just gimmicks IMHO - gadgets for geeks :)

Just think about how hard it has been for RSS to get broad take up.

When it comes to mobile phones, I know plenty of people who don't know how to do any more than make phone calls and send an SMS.

For recruitment there will never be a killer app, because the reality is, no single medium or advertising product will ever reach the whole market. Successful recruitment which consistently identifies the best people in the market at any given time, requires a multi pronged approach, and tenacity.

@Lucas yep great ideas!

@Thomas True some phones are slow at processing the QR Codes, but things will improve. I would be interesting to see the results of the Bluetooth activity, my personal experience has been most people ignore push messages.

I have recently lead a project with a number of employers who were connecting to users at job fairs and so forth by bluetooth.

Lets take an average university job fair/expo - the area is usually about 10m x 10m good range for bluetooth.

The employer has set up a marketing message -either visit our stand, enter our competition, etc to send to all mobile phones in the area.

Users could accept the message/invite to find out more information. :)

It works very well.

QR codes are good...but...you need a phone compatible with a barcode scanner application. My NokiaN95 takes forever to read a QR barcode, and I have to keep it very still on the image.

The same could be said about bluetooth technology thou. Users need to have it turned on.

I think a great way to use QR codes on job boards would be as a tool for advertisers to direct applicants to their online ad. They might come in especially handy in places like physical job boards. There aren't so many of those around anymore, but in universities for example, where careers offices tend not to be so "hi-tech" (or, indeed, funded), a printed QR code would be an excellent way to point students to online ads or resources. This is especially true when you consider that the young adult male demographic is particularly heavy on early adopters.
