Find It in Pre-Beta

August 30th, 2006 · 6 Comments · Recruitment · 2,995 views

Trevor Cook dropped me a note today saying that a new classifieds service has gone into pre-Beta in Australia. The service is FindIt.

One the surface it is a classifieds tool just like CraigsList, Google Base and many others. The scope compared to other Australian services is different, FindIt has categories covering Jobs, Real Estate, Vehicles, Marketplace (think eBay), Directories, Events, and Community. From day one the site has lots of neat features, RSS, tags, comments, Google Maps.

What will be how the jobs side of things shakes out in what is already a very crowded market in Australia.

Thanks for the coverage Michael. You’re right about the online job ads space. It is crowded. Our offering seeks to provide better tools to advertisers and job seekers for a lower price. It is interesting to look at the current fee structure for Seek, MyCareer and Career One. We reckon it’s time to charge according to the cost of the service and not what you can get away with. $165.00 for an employment ad is nuts. Our price (when we start charging next year) of $25.00 is fairer. Our research tells us that people are frustrated with what they are charged today. hence the soon to launch Find It.

Mark, you are right on the money with the current price for job ad’s being way too high, although I would far prefer to see job ads for $165 with the job board providing useful value added services to people (HR or managers) doing the recruiting. A multi-tiered approach could be the best method. Free ad with no additional services, all the way up to $150 or $200 for an ad that includes actual recruting tools.

At the end of the day, it’s all about your audience. Recruiters won’t pay a cent to advertise with you unless they get results.

Very true Kevin! Although I suspect they will pay more for results plus more functionality to imporve their recruitment process.

It is about the audience. However, our research tells us that some advertisers in this space are sufficiently unhappy with current charges that they will help build a lower cost yet equally (or more) functional alternative. Find It is two thirds free, providing a community connect and socially responsible focus not seen in other mainstream sites in Australia.
